This is the version duplicated by Allied Record Company as shown by the AR text on the cassette. A version duplicated by Specialty Records Corporation with an SR on the cassette exists as well. Not to be confused with Prince - Sign "O" The Times (which says 'W' on the cartridge)5/5(5).

Fearless, eclectic, and defiantly messy, Prince's Sign 'O' the Times falls into the tradition of tremendous, chaotic double albums like The Beatles, Exile on Main St., and London Calling-- albums that are fantastic because of their overreach, their great sprawl. Prince shows nearly all of his cards here, from bare-bones electro-funk and smooth soul to pseudo-psychedelic pop and crunching hard.

The androgynous vertigo of the lyrics are complemented by half-speed clap samples, steamy, growling synthesizer chords somewhere in the next room and a bassline so filtered it’s practically treble.5/5.

I think Prince’s Sign o’ the Times is my favorite album. Sometimes it’s been [Prince’s] Parade, but recently I have veered back to Sign o’ the panklitumbbanexmarophedafverssincren.coinfo sheer pleasure, wonder at its musical breadth, and number of years spent listening to it, as well as for the unusual nature of the album—live full band tracks next to completely solo, somewhat minimal, even demo-like tracks—I.

And once the gender-bending desires of “If I Was Your Girlfriend” climax with “Adore,” arguably the best song Prince ever recorded, the Purple One’s skill for making his most profane desires a spiritual priority is never more irresistible. And a statement of musical immortality has never been this close to perfect.

Last week, I purchased the album digitally to listen to in the car on my way home from a road trip. We listened from track one through the entire album, and I not only relived the magic of that first listen all those years ago, but truly found the album timeless. Even by today's standards, this album is a musical gem!!! Thanks Prince for your /5().
