Ocean Avenue is the major label debut album from the five-piece Yellowcard. Produced by Neal Avron (Everclear, New Found Glory), the album sees the band update the popular SoCal pop-punk sound with help from classically trained violinist Sean Mackin/5().

Lights and Sounds is a bigger, broader album from their platinum debut album Ocean Avenue, that finds Yellowcard moving away from songs about breakups and onto more expansive themes of artifice, war, and adulthood. The guitars are tougher, the songs more intricate and encompass a wider spectrum of musical styles, which is evident the title track.

Unfortunately, the momentum the band displayed in first half of Ocean Avenue hits a block once “Twenty Three” starts to play through the speakers. These songs aren’t particularly bad on this half of the album; however, it’s just that they uncomfortably settle in the area of the mediocre and contrived.

Yellowcard's major-label debut, "Ocean Avenue," is filled with fun pop-punk tunes for any fan of the genre. Though some claim they have "sold out" or that this album sucks, it sounds the same as their other releases. Highlights include "Ocean Avenue" "Way Away" and "Breathing."
